Conventions

Certain conventions are used in Composer user assistance to help you recognize and understand important concepts and specifications. This topic describes:

Typographical Conventions

The guides use the following typographical conventions:

Convention Indicates...
italic type Cross-references to other guides or topics in other guides for which a hyperlink cannot be provided.
For example, See Installation, Configuration and Licensing Guide: Configuration: Sharing Application Preferences
interface entity type All interface entities (commands, dialog box options, named tree components, keyboard keys, etc.).
Typical examples:
  • Click File > New Project
  • Click Rotate
  • To copy the file, press Ctrl+C.
> A menu item in the ribbon. For example, Click File > New Project means click the New Project icon from the File menu in the ribbon.
code type Input data, variables and code entered in a Command Prompt window, and error messages.
Site Map links Links in the site map do not follow the standard convention for textual links used in the guides: they are not underlined.

Mouse Terminology

The 3-button mouse is recommended for usability reasons.

How you use the mouse depends on the type of action you need to perform.

Use this mouse button... Whenever you read...

  • Select (actors in the viewport, menu commands, etc.)
  • Click (ribbon commands, dialog box command buttons, selection of a location in the window, etc.)
  • Double-click
  • Shift-click
  • Ctrl-click
  • Drag
  • Drag and drop (icons onto objects, objects onto objects)

  • Pan (the camera in the viewport)
  • Zoom (the model in and out)

  • Right-click (to select context menu items)
  • Rotate (the camera in the viewport)
